Sobre Ioan
Las órdenes religiosas, durante toda la historia de la Iglesia, han contado y cuentan actualmente con artistas entre sus miembros, dedicados al servicio de anunciar y comunicar a Cristo. Los Discípulos de los Corazones de Jesús y María se unen a esta tradición gracias al servicio de Ioan Gotia, autor de los murales de la Capilla del Colegio Stella Maris de Madrid.
Su pasión por el arte se manifestó desde muy pequeño, gracias al ejemplo y ánimo que le dieron su abuela materna y su madre, quienes comparten la misma pasión.
Después de realizar sus estudios de Teología e Iconografía en la Facultad de Teología Greco-Católica en Cluj-Napoca (Romania, BA, 2001), Ioan siguió sus estudios de teología en el Instituto Teológico International para estudios sobre el Matrimonio y la Familia (Gaming, Austria, Licenciatura, 2005). A continuación, Ioan se doctoró en Ciencias Eclesiásticas en el Pontifico Instituto Oriental (Roma, 2010), con la especialización en la Iconografía Bizantina.
El año 2007, durante su estancia en Roma, pintó los frescos de la Capilla del Espíritu Santo de la Residencia Benedicto XVI. Ingresó en los Discípulos, y después de su periodo de formación, Ioan se dedicó totalmente a la creación de arte litúrgico, decorando varias capillas e iglesias en Europa y Estados Unidos.
En el año 2012 realizó su primer proyecto de pintura monumental en España: la pintura mural de la Capilla de la Eucaristía del Colegio Sagrado Corazón de Derroñadas (Soria, España). A este proyecto le siguieron nuevas obras:
- en los Estados Unidos: Capilla Magnificat de Adoración eucarística, parroquia St. Mary´s (Littleton, CO, 2013); Capilla Rectoría St. Mary’s Parish (Littleton, Denver CO, 2017);
- Austria: Capilla de la Exaltación de la Santa Cruz del Instituto Teológico Internacional (Trumau, 2014); Ábside e Iconostasis Capilla Bizantina del Instituto Teológico Internacional (Trumau, 2018);
- España: Templo de la Parroquia de la Beata Teresa de Calcutta (Vicalvaro, Madrid, 2015); Bóveda de la iglesia parroquial Santa María Asunta (Colombres, Asturias, 2015); Templo Colegio Stella Maris la Gavia (Madrid, 2016); Capilla San José Parroquia San Juan el Real (Oviedo, 2017); Capilla Adoración eucarística, Parroquia San Román (Cuenca, 2017); Capilla ESO Colegio Stella Maris la Gavia (Madrid, 2018); Capilla Residencia Profesores Colegio Stella Maris la Gavia (Madrid, 2019).

Religious orders, throughout the history of the Church, have and have had artists among its members, at the service of announcing and communicating Christ to others through their art. The Religious Institute of the Disciples of the Hearts of Jesus and Mary participates in this tradition thanks to the service of Ioan Gotia, author of the murals in Chapel of Stella Maris School in Madrid.
His passion for art was manifested when he was very young, inspired by the example of his grandmother and his mother, both of whom share in the same passion.
In 1997, Ioan graduated from the Highschool of Fine Arts “Romul Ladea” (Cluj-Napoca, Romania) and then completed his theological and iconographical studies at the Greek-Catholic Theological Faculty (Cluj-Napoca, Romania). In 2005 Ioan continued his theological studies at the International Theological Institute for Studies on Marriage and the Family (Gaming, Austria), earning in 2005 a Lycentiate degree in Theological Studies, and in 2010 he earned his doctorate in Ecclesiastical Sciences at the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome, with a specialization in Byzantine Iconography.
In 2007, while in Rome, he painted the frescoes of the Chapel of the Holy Spirit at the Residence Benedict XVI. He joined the religious community of the Disciples of the Hearts of Jesus and Mary, and after completing his novitiate, Ioan dedicated fully to the mission of creating liturgical art, decorating various chapels and churches all over the world, in Europe and the USA.
In 2012 he realized his first monumental painting project in Spain: the murals of the Chapel of the Eucharist of the Sacred Heart School of Derroñadas (Soria).
To this project others followed:
- in the USA: Magnificat Chapel of Eucharistic Adoration St. Mary´s Parish (Littleton, CO, 2013); Rectory Chapel St. Mary’s Parish (Littleton, Denver CO, 2017);
- Austria: Exaltation of the Holy Cross Byzantine Chapel of the International Theological Institute (Trumau, 2014); Apsis and Iconostasis of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross Byzantine Chapel of the International Theological Institute (Trumau, 2018);
- Spain: Saint Therese of Calcutta Parish Church (Vicalvaro, Madrid, 2015); Dome of Saint Mary of the Asumption Church (Colombres, Asturias, 2015); Stella Maris la Gavia School’s Chapel (Madrid, 2016); Saint Joseph’s Chapel of Saint Juan el Real Basilica (Oviedo, 2017); Eucharistic Adoration Chapel, Saint Roman’s Parish Church (Cuenca, 2017); Secondary Grade Chapel of Stella Maris la Gavia School (Madrid, 2018); Teachers’ Residence Chapel of Stella Maris la Gavia School (Madrid, 2019).
